About The Valley Hospital

The Valley Hospital is a fully accredited, acute care, not-for-profit hospital serving more than 440,000 people in 32 towns in Bergen County and adjoining communities. Valley has earned the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Its current licensed capacity is 451 beds. In 2004, 47,472 individuals were admitted to Valley, more than 55,800 people were treated in the Emergency Department and 3,263 babies were born. According to the most recent statistics available, Valley is the second busiest hospital in the state of New Jersey, based on admissions. In 2003 and 2005, Valley was recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program SM. This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by The Valley Hospital to provide an outstanding patient experience. Valley was the first hospital in the tri-state area to be awarded this distinction. In addition, Valley also received Magnet Award for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Magnet Award is the nursing profession's highest honor.

Known throughout northern New Jersey for its medical and technical excellence, Valley is a leader in the field of cardiology services. The service includes a full range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac treatment services, including cardiac surgerycoronary angioplasty and electrophysiology studies. At the forefront of the development of new techniques in open heart surgery, Valley offers Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB), one of the newest procedures available today. Certified by the American College of Surgeons to have a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program, Valley is widely known for its prostate seed implant procedure. The hospital is also known for its maternity services, welcoming approximately 3,000 babies into the world each year, and for its state of New Jersey-designated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which is directed by four full-time neonatologists.

Some of the hospital’s newest innovations include the opening of an Embryology Laboratory at The Valley Hospital Fertility Center, a service affiliated with New York University School of Medicine; The Center for Childbirth, offering comprehensive maternity care; the establishment of a state-of-the-art Critical Care Service; a comprehensive Breast Center; a chronic dialysis program; and the establishment of a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit as part of a newly renovated Pediatric Unit. Recent treatment innovations include the introduction of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy for cancer care and Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery for lung cancer cases.

Valley recently opened The Robert and Audrey Luckow Pavilion in a new three-story, 128,000-square-foot satellite facility of The Valley Hospital located in Paramus (behind The Fashion Center). Valley is also known for its active and longstanding Same-Day Services program. More than one third of Valley’s annual admissions are for Same-Day Services, and more than half of the surgeries performed at Valley are performed on a same-day basis.
